Hello fellow foodies!
Welcome to Sumi’s KreativKitchen! This is an all-vegetarian food page that showcases creative variations on traditional Indian and international recipes. Come in, relax, browse around and enjoy my take on various Indian dishes along side some untouched traditional recipes!
It feels like I have been cooking (happily) all my life! It is the one thing that serves as the biggest stress buster consistently. I was born and raised in Mumbai, India but I have been fortunate enough to live and travel around the world. And my inspirations therefore have been varied. My mother who I consider one of the best cooks ever (!!) provided innumerable dreamy traditional Tamilian dishes for my taste buds growing up. These were ably and oh so phenomenally augmented by my grandmother and grandaunt who somehow magically churned out delectable goodies one after the other with humble supplies and tools! But it was my father who channeled my love for experimentation even as a beginner cook and encouraged every small twist that I planted in the recipe. He insisted on the need for a visually appealing dish because “you eat with your eyes first…” You do need some willing victims for the chances that you take I realized! Over time, there have been many and I am grateful for all of them and for their love of food, especially my super supportive husband! This website is an ode to the hundreds of friends and relatives who have fed me over the years (you know who you are!!) and to the innumerable talented food bloggers who have come before me!
My approach to cooking is straightforward. Very often, the pantry is my inspiration…Ingredients inspire me and farmers’ markets and international supermarkets are a source of pure joy for me! And New York City is just the place where pulsating diversity of foods and endless possibilities abound!
I hope you enjoy my quirky but decidedly tasty creations 🙂 Do comment on the posts, I would love to hear what you think. Please do feel to write to me at sumiskreativkitchen@gmail.com with any questions! I would love to hear from you. I am open to feedback and constructive criticism 🙂 always!
